Carbon Happy World in Sefton named a Finalist in Innovation Challenge Awards turning climate action into real progress

Sefton based Carbon Happy World has been named a finalist in the Isle of Man Innovation Challenge 2025, marking a major step forward in the global effort to turn climate ambition into real and measurable progress.

This milestone is only possible thanks to the Isle of Man’s pioneering new Data Stewardship corporate structure, developed by Digital Isle of Man. This framework creates the conditions for regulated and ethical sharing of data between public and private sectors. It is a vital step that allows innovation to flourish while protecting trust, security, and the public interest.

Carbon Happy World’s solution uses this trusted environment to deliver live carbon data and create clear and trackable pathways to Net Zero.

By bringing together government, businesses, and communities through shared access to meaningful data, it offers not just a local solution but a global blueprint. For countries with legally binding Net Zero targets, this presents a proven way to move from targets to action.

The innovation was introduced to the island by Ellanstone Ltd, a company focused on attracting bold thinkers and transformative technologies to the Isle of Man. It reflects Ellanstone’s wider mission to help position the island as a leading destination for sustainability, data innovation and responsible economic development in line with the Island Plan.

Brendon Kenny, Chief Innovation Officer of Ellanstone, said:
“This is what happens when you join the dots. When public and private sectors work together, when data is used with purpose, and when innovation is aligned with real-world needs. The Isle of Man is showing that even a small place can make a big difference by thinking clearly, acting responsibly and working in partnership.”

This announcement follows the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Isle of Man Government and the Liverpool City Region. The agreement opens new opportunities for collaboration in innovation, investment, and environmental progress.

Carbon Happy World’s success is a clear example of what is possible when regional partnerships are built on a shared purpose.

Gary Adlen, CEO, Carbon Happy World, said:

“As the world searches for practical solutions to the climate crisis, the Isle of Man is showing that leadership is not about size or power. It is about courage, clarity, and the ability to reimagine what is possible through shared data and shared responsibility.

“We look forward to developing our plans into meaningful actions.”
