Expansion plans and Sefton as a great place to do business in were discussions as part of a tour of local businesses in the borough. Sefton Council’s Labour Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, Cllr Marion Atkinson and Bootle MP, Peter Dowd, recently visited two south Sefton businesses to hear of their development plans. The tours were set up by InvestSefton – Sefton Council’s enterprise, business support and inward investment service who have helped both businesses through their ERDF Business Growth programme. First up was a site visit to Hardy UK – a leading Bootle-based manufacturer and supplier of precision blades to the global leather industry. Currently trading from Fernhill Road, Bootle, they employ 17 staff with the majority of them living in the borough. The key announcements from Chancellor Philip Hammond: TAX AND WAGES :: “Austerity is coming to an end but discipline will remain,” the chancellor says. :: Mr Hammond is raising the personal allowance to £12,500 and the higher rate threshold to £50,000 from April 2019 “one year early”. He says it is an income tax “cut for 32 million people” putting £130 in the pocket of a typical basic rate taxpayer. :: From April the National Living Wage will rise by 4.9% from £7.83 to £8.21. :: Fuel duty is frozen for the ninth successive year. Santander today unveiled plans for a new, state-of-the-art campus, to replace their current offices in Bootle. The new complex will represent a £75 million investment in the area and be home to over 2,500 staff. It will see Bootle become the contact centre and operations hub for Santander UK. The current site is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month and today’s plans will be the first significant redevelopment since it opened in 1968. The ambition is to create a building that can become a hub for the local area with retail opportunities, sporting and social facilities and a public park. The new office space will be designed to encourage collaboration amongst staff and support their well-being. Last week saw the launch of our increasingly popular Business Clinic drop in sessions at The Atkinson in Southport. A short video from the launch can be viewed here.
