Maritime Minister tours Liverpool2 container base

Peel Ports welcomed Maritime Minister Nusrat Ghani to its flagship container terminal Liverpool2 on Wednesday July 25. The visit comes as the terminal prepares to welcome its largest regular caller to date when 2M (Maersk and MSC alliance) introduces a new transatlantic container service to the port. The Minister met with chief operating officer Patrick Walters and received a tour of the port, as well as meeting with workers from varying roles across the container terminal. National Clean Air Strategy 2018

The UK government is making changes to its approach to tackling air pollution and has launched a public consultation on the draft national Clean Air Strategy. This is a great opportunity for Sefton businesses to input their views on how they feel air pollution is being tackled at a national level. The proposed Clean Air Strategy 2018 sets out actions to improve air quality by reducing pollution from a wide range of sources.  The themes making up the strategy are: understanding the problem; protecting the nation’s health; protecting the environment; securing clean growth and innovation; reducing emissions from transport; reducing emissions from farming; reducing emissions from industry; and leadership.  The consultation also asks for views on the strategy as a whole.  Respondents can feedback on as many or as few of the consultation questions as they want. Liverpool’s massive £400m shipping terminal will soon start welcoming its biggest-ever ships as two transatlantic container services switch to the city. And port bosses hope that the short-term move will prove to shipping lines that they should bring more services to Liverpool permanently.

Global printing firm Domino sets up shop in MySefton

A global developer and manufacturer of coding and marking products, headquartered in the UK, is celebrating the official opening of its new fluids facility in Bootle. Domino Printing Sciences has moved its fluids manufacturing to a new 172,000 sq ft (16,000 sq m) state-of-the-art factory on the Senate Business Park, enabling a significant increase in productivity and capacity, as well as reduced lead times through investment in leading-edge production processes. The expansion will also result in the creation of 19 new jobs over the next nine months, bringing the total workforce to 88. Formby Hall in bid for ‘world-class destination’ status

Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa, in Sefton, Merseyside, has announced plans to extend and upgrade its current facilities to create “a world-class, multi-purpose resort”. It aims be regarded as one of the best golf and leisure facilities in the North West of England. The four-star resort currently extends to more than 200 acres and already features two golf courses of 18 and nine holes; a 27-bay driving range; a golf shop; health spa; and a 76-bed hotel. It is home to the first PGA National Residential Golf Academy in the UK – centres of excellence for golf – which offer outstanding teaching and coaching facilities with accommodation, and the only one in the North of England.
